What is Voluntary work?
Voluntary work is about giving your time to do something worthwhile, often with a community impact, without getting paid (except for expenses)

What are the Benefits of volunteering?
People volunteer for many different reasons:

Educational and Employment Benefits

  • To enhance your CV
  • To gain work experience
  • To gain experience working in a specific sector
  • To gain new skills and knowledge
  • To gain qualifications
  • To enhance existing skills and knowledge
Social Benefits
  • To meet new people
  • To get to know a new area
  • To give something back to the community
Health and Well Being Benefits
  • You may have spare time on your hands and want to keep busy
  • Build confidence and self esteem
  • To feel valued
  • Research shows enhanced health and well being through volunteering
  • To have fun!
Other benefits
  • To help others less fortunate
  • You may be passionate about a specific cause
Most people who get involved in volunteering do so due to their own personal reasons. At Innovate Volunteering we will work with volunteers to find out what these reasons are and will support volunteers to realise their volunteering goals.

What about insurance?
Innovate Volunteering provides all volunteers with liability and personal accident insurance cover whilst they are volunteering with the organisation.

Would I be asked to complete a CRB disclosure check?
Yes. All Innovate Volunteering volunteers are required to undergo a disclosure check as they may be volunteering with vulnerable adults and children. Innovate Volunteering can carry out these checks for you.

I work full time, am I still able to volunteer?
Although the majority of Innovate Volunteering projects operate throughout the day, we do offer sessions at weekends or in the evenings which still require volunteers.

Do I need to make a regular commitment to volunteering?
The level of commitment required would very much depend on which volunteering placement or activity you would like to apply for and this would be discussed with you when applying for a placement. At particular times throughout the year Innovate Volunteering requires volunteers for one off events. If you do not wish to make a regular commitment contact us about these one off events.

I've never done anything like this before, do I need experience?
No! Innovate Volunteering believes in volunteer progression and as such provides full training for any role applied for. However, if you do have experience and skills in a particular area we would love to hear from you!

Our partnership has been very pleased with the training provided by Innovate Volunteering. We have been very impressed by the flexibility and understanding shown to the participants on the course we commissioned. This has left us with the legacy of committed and enthusiastic volunteers who are adding value to our service delivery, benefiting their local community and improving their own employment skills. Because of the success of our first training programme with Innovate Volunteering we have very quickly secured their services for a second round of training - this is testament to our belief in the quality and effectiveness of the service they provide
